What does a nanny do with a baby all day?
Throughout the day, a nanny will provide your baby with loving care and tend to all physical and emotional needs. Your nanny will also do basic baby-related household chores, such as cleaning bottles and emptying the diaper pail.
1) What is a typical day as a nanny?
While there’s no 'typical’ day for nannies, they’ll meet the emotional and physical needs of the children they care for. Depending on your children’s ages, they may perform any of the following tasks:
Dressing and preparing children for school
Helping younger children during mealtimes
Setting up fun educational activities
Carrying out child-related household duties
Preparing nutritious meals
Organizing and attending playdates and activities
2) What does a nanny do with a baby all day?
Being a nanny to a newborn is a full-time job. During the day, your nanny will feed your baby, change diapers, soothe and calm your baby, and follow your baby's sleep schedule. Nannies may also carry out light baby-related cleaning tasks and take your baby to routine appointments.
Being a nanny to a baby differs from caring for older children but is no less challenging. Babies may be stationary and less likely to cause mischief, yet they often require constant attention for long periods. Babies also create messes—from spilled food to soiled diapers— and can’t clean up after themselves.
3) What should a nanny do while the baby naps?
The saying 'rest while the baby rests' applies to nannies as well as parents! While it’s okay to expect your nanny to do some baby-related household chores while your little one naps, assigning an extensive to-do list of cleaning duties is not.
Naptime-related grievances between nannies and their employers are unfortunately all too common. While you shouldn't pay someone to sit around for two to three hours while your baby sleeps, it’s perfectly acceptable for your nanny to take a reasonable break during this time. Remember, your nanny is still 'on duty' and ready to respond whenever your baby wakes.
